Abstract

1,170,096. Cooling systems for I.C. engines. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. 9 Nov., 1966 [10 Nov., 1965], No. 50262/66. Heading F4U. A coding system for an I.C. engine 11 comprises a radiator 13, a by-pass 18 controlled by a thermostat 17, an air heating circuit 19 and a shut-off valve 22 interposed between thermostat 17 and radiator 13. As shown, valve 22 is solenoid-operated under the control of an element 24 responsive to the coolant temperature upstream of thermostat 17 so that when the latter prevents flow of coolant to the radiator, valve 22 is closed. Thus any leakage through the thermostat is prevented from reaching the radiator. A by-pass 25 including a normally closed manually operable valve 26 is provided for use in charging the system with coolant.
