Abstract

1,018,227. Conduit end fittings. AERO-QUIP A.G. May 29, 1963 [June 5, 1962], No. 21541/63. Heading F2G. A conduit end fitting comprises a body 10 having a bore 12 to receive a conduit 22, 24 and a conical surface 30 transversely disposed to, concentrically disposed about and adjacent to the bore. A gasket compression body 34 is movable parallel to the axis of the body 10, the compression body being formed with a bore 40 and a conical surface 36 parallel to and opposed to the surface 30. An annular, cylindrical surface 28 concentric with and spaced from the bore 12 is provided on one of the bodies and intersects one of the surfaces. An annular conical gasket of a material softer than that of the cylindrical surface has internal and external diameters substantially equal to the diameters of the conduit and the cylindrical surface respectively and the angle made by the gasket at the axis of the first bore is smaller than that of the surfaces 30, 36, axial compression between the surfaces forcing the gasket into sealing contact with the conduit and cylindrical surface. The body 10 is provided with a tube support 14. As the compression body is screwed into the body 10 the conduit is carried farther into the latter by the frictional grip of the gasket on the conduit. The fitting and compression bodies 10, 34 may be of brass, steel, stainless steel or aluminium and the gasket of brass of aluminium. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the compression bodies are screwed on to the outer surface of the body. In a further embodiment, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), two gaskets are placed between the surfaces, the outer one being of a material harder than that of the conduit and cylindrical surface so that it bites into and is retained on the conduit on forming the joint and on dismantling the joint respectively. The second, inner gasket is as the gasket in the other embodiments.
