Abstract

932,002. Pipe joints. STANTON & STAVELEY Ltd. March 7, 1962, No. 8738/62. Class 99(1). A pipe joint comprises a socket 2 formed at the end of a pipe 1 which co-operates with a spigot 3 of a pipe 4, a rubber, lead nosed gasket 10 held in the mouth of the socket 2 by a gland ring 11 and nut and bolt assembly 12; and a spring anchoring ring 6 engaging a surface within socket 2 and on the external surface of spigot 3. The spigot engagement surface includes a groove 5 having a tapered base such that, on applying a separating force to the two pipes, the ring 6 is forced radially inwardly against spigot 3. The outer periphery of the ring 6 may be conical, Fig. 1, conoidal, Fig. 2 (not shown) or cylindrical, Fig. 3 (not shown), these surfaces co-operating with complementary surfaces of the socket 2. The ring 7 may also be provided with a chamfered inner peripheral edge to facilitate its removal from the groove 5. Specification 932,001 is referred to.
