In an endless conveyer belt, which runs by rollers on rails (not shown) and is driven by side bar chains 1, overlapping steel plates with lateral flanges 3 are firmly mounted to the chains 1 by means of angle-pieces 2 with a clearance a, Fig. 3 (not shown), of up to 2 mm. The roller spacing is more than twice and not more than six times the length of the plates 3 while each overlapping end 8 has a transition radius R of not less than 10 mm. The belt moves in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 1 so that if the movement of the conveyed material is blocked the plates 1 may slip underneath it. Fig. 6 (not shown) illustrates a modification wherein plates with straight surface overlaps 7 are pivotally mounted on the chains with clearances b and c between adjacent plates and the chains respectively. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 693,198.
