Abstract

855,070. Endless conveyers. BRITISH WEDGE WIRE CO. Ltd. April 10, 1957 (Oct. 19, 1956], No. 31822/56. Class 78 (1). In an endless belt, band, chain or slat conveyer a roller chain is mounted independently of the conveying element to run idly between and with its rollers in contact with a side edge of the conveying element and a stationary guide member, the rollers of the roller chain being arranged with their ares normal to the plane of the conveying element. As shown, the conveyer comprises a wire mesh band 10 adapted to traverse a 180 degree arc. The upper run of the band 10 rests on a series of tapered rollers 13 and has its inner side edge in contact with rollers 14 of an endless roller chain 15 running idly over a guide rail 16. The lower ends of the roller spindles of the chain 15 slide along a track 20 of anti-friction material such as " Tufnol " (Registered Trade Mark). The return run of the chain 15 is enclosed in a housing 21 which includes a shroud 23 to protect the operative run of the chain. The lower run of the band 10 rest on pairs of inclined tapered rollers 24, 25 arranged at a greater spacing than the rollers 13. In another embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), endless roller chains are disposed along a straight conveyer band at positions adjacent to and on either side of a discharge station where material is removed by a transverse scraper, so as to take up the side thrust on the band produced by the scraper.
