Abstract

1444506 Endless chain conveyors POLYGRAPH LEIPZIG KOMBINAT FUR POLYGRAPHISCHE MASCHINEN UND AUSRUSTUNGEN VEB 1 July 1974 [2 July 1973] 29021/74 Heading B8A [Also in Division B6] A plate chain conveyor for clamping and conveying book blocks comprises two endless, roller conveyor chains having opposed portions which define a clamping zone in which the rollers 14 run on opposed longitudinal guides 5, (6), Fig. 1 (not shown), a plurality of clamping elements, each comprising a plate portion 11 and a carrier portion 12 being pivotably connected to respective pins 10 in the chains by the carrier portions 12. This pivotable connection is displaced beyond the respective plate portion, and the carrier portion lies below the plate portion so that the end 13 of a preceding plate portion can rest upon the carrier portion of the adjacent clamping element. The ends 11<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP>, 13<SP>1</SP>, of the carrier and plate portions are rounded or chamfered to prevent the clamping elements from projecting into the conveyor path when turning around chain wheels (3), 4. Side projections (16), Fig. 6 (not shown), may be provided on the plate portions to latch onto the next adjacent carrier portion when turning around the chain wheels.
