Abstract

1,016,691. Number-printing apparatus. W. & F. G. FRICKER Ltd. Feb. 19, 1962 [Nov. 17, 1960], No. 39609/60. Heading B6C. A printing device incorporates a roller 3 formed with a recess 8, a printing cylinder 7 carrying printing characters on its periphery and rotatably mounted in the recess, a rock arm 9 having a one-way driving connection with the cylinder, a cam 14, and a cam follower 11 which co-operates with the rock arm 9 on rotation of the roller so as to swing the arm and thus turn the cylinder. A bracket 6 mounted on a removable distance-piece in the recess 8 supports the cylinder 7 which co-operates alternately with an inking roller and an impression roller, Fig. 1 (not shown), and prints consecutive characters on a web of paper. The arm 9 is urged to move in a direction against the thrust of the cam by a spring, Fig. 3 (not shown); a stabilizing spring 18 is also provided. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the arm 9 carries a cam follower in the form of a stud constituting an adjustable tappet and a cam is eccentrically fixed on the stationary shaft about which the roller 3 rotates. The same character may be repeatedly printed in either embodiment by withdrawing the cam 14, loosening the eccentrically fixed cam in the second embodiment or permitting the shaft on which the roller is mounted to rotate. The device may be rendered inoperative by removing the distance-piece from the recess and the projection of the cylinder may be adjusted by selecting a suitable distance-piece.
