Abstract
1,013,551. Casting composite articles. VITKOVICKE ZELEZARNY KLEMENTA GOTTWALDA NARODNI PODNIK. Jan. 13, 1964 [Jan. 14, 1963], No. 1434/64. Heading B3F. A method of producing composite castings' in particular, rolls for rolling mills, comprises positioning, in a mould, a core 1 attached to a withdrawal bar 4, the core being concentrically supported on a shoulder 3 between the body and lower neck 9 of the roll. Molten metal of a high wear resistant ferrous alloy is then poured through a gate 6 into the space 2 to form the outer hard layer of the roll body. When this outer hard layer has commenced to solidify, molten metal of a ferrous alloy of high strength and toughness is poured through the gate 8 into the lower port 9 of the mould and which displaces the core upwards into the feeder head 10. The core is then removed and the high strength and toughness ferrous alloy is then poured into the remaining space in the mould through the feeder head.
