Class 44 A coupling comprises in combination, a hollow body 4 adapted for connection to one of the parts to be coupled, the body 4 having adjacent one end an internal annular surface 8 of conical or other tapering form, a hollow plug 9 slidable within the body, a spring 10 urging the plug towards the conical surface, a plurality of members 12 mounted for radial movement in the plug, a sleeve 14 slidable on the outer periphery of the body, means 13 extending through a slot in the body whereby the plug 9 can be moved in opposition to the spring by movement of the sleeve, and a peg 18 adapted to be connected to the other part to be coupled, the peg having at one end a head 20 which can be inserted into the body and plug, the arrangement be such that when thus inserted, the interaction of the members with the surface 8 under the action of the spring will cause the members to engage behind the head of the peg to retain the latter within the body. As shown, the one end of the body is provided with a D-shaped ring which is retained by a flanged end cap 7. The coupling may be used to connect a lead to a dog collar or to interconnect parts of a rucksack.
