Heading B3M A rolling mill suitable for rolling tubes comprises a base B on which saddles S are mounted in tandem, each saddle supporting a roll housing H 1 , H 2 &c., which is readily removable from the base. Each housing is generally cylindrical in form, includes three co-operating rolls 7, 8 and 9, and is held against surfaces 2 and 3 of its saddle by a spring- loaded block 19. The housings being so closely spaced, the driving shafts, and also the separate motors and gear-boxes, of each are staggered. Housing H 1 is driven by a shaft 11 from a gear-box 38 and motor output shaft 37, while the next housing H 2 has its drive shaft 33 at a higher level. Rolls 7 and 9 are driven by bevel gearing from roll 8. For removing or changing the roll housings a pivoted clamp C, common to all the housings, is rotated to the chain dotted position to release the block 19 from clamping engagement. The clamp is rotated by piston rods 30 acting through bell crank levers 27 and links 24. For each housing, a pivoted arm A, situated beneath the housing and in a slot in the saddle S, can be rotated clockwise by a piston rod 54 to shift the housing on to a waiting car R. The cars can be moved on rails 65 and 66 clear of the mill base and, if desired, further cars D carrying replacement housings can be moved on transverse rails 73 towards the mill. In an alternative form the pivoted arms A for shifting the housings may be mounted on the cars R themselves, and similarly on the cars D.
