Abstract
1,001,235. Thermal regenerators. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER A.B. Feb. 19, 1962 [Feb. 21, 1961], No. 6260/62. Heading F4K. [Also in Division G3] The spacing between a flange 2 of the end face of the rotary element of a heat exchanger and a stationary sector plate 3 which overlies the rotary element and is intended to make a substantial seal therewith is maintained by servomechanism responsive to variations in the said spacing. In one embodiment the sector plate, which is supported at its right-hand side by link means (not shown), so that it may be swung up and down by a pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical servomotor 8 to which it is connected by an adjustable link 11 passing through a seal 13 surrounding an opening in a cover 12, carries a nozzle 6 fed with pressure air through a restriction 5 and communicating with a spring-loaded piston 7<SP>1</SP> which actuates a controller 9 for the servopiston 8. The clearance of circumferential segments may also be controlled in this manner. In a modification the clearance is detected by a lever mechanically connected to the controller 9, whilst in a further modification the clearance forms part of a magnetic circuit with windings fed with constant alternating voltage so that changes in the clearance give rise to current changes which effect control of the servomotor. In the case of large heat exchangers, in which divided sector plates are employed, each component part of a plate is provided with clearance adjustment. Specification 737,964 is referred to.
