In apparatus for dispensing beverages pressurized carbon dioxide at 10, Fig. 1, passes regulating valve 11 to carbonate water at 41 and force it through refrigerator 40 to an outlet nozzle 95 via a mixing chamber 136, Fig. 3, when a solenoid valve W is energized and a lower pressure via regulating valve 17 forces a flavouring from one of the tanks 15-35 via a manifold block 1 to the mixing chamber and outlet when a selected solenoid valve A-E is energized, the flavouring from e.g. 35 passing via pipes 110, 108 and spring loaded ball check valve 28, the lower pressure being insufficient to open another spring loaded check valve 76 leading to drain 56, 90. When purging of the passage from any ball check valve to the outlet is required, the outlet nozzle is closed, e.g. by plug 93, and on energizing the water solenoid valve W and a selected flavouring solenoid valve, the higher pressure water flows through passages 134, 138 through the mixing chamber and e.g. passages 140, 108 to maintain the selected ball check valve 28 closed and prevent water entering the flavouring tank 35, and opens check valve 76 to allow the flushing water to drain.
