Description
Domaine technique de l’inventionTechnical field of the invention
The invention generally relates to the field of heat engines, in particular for vehicles. More particularly, the invention relates to a heat engine comprising a crankcase gas leak detection device in a high load duct of a crankcase gas ventilation circuit.
The invention applies more particularly to turbocharged gasoline engines which include a PRV-type crankcase pressure regulation system for “Pressure Regulating Valve”.
In this type of heat engine, the crankcase gases, also called "blow-by gases", mainly come from leaks at the level of the piston rings. The crankcase gases must be evacuated to avoid a pressure rise in the lower engine and, consequently, a risk of releasing polluting hydrocarbons into the atmosphere, damage to the combustion engine and a potential danger to people.
Heat engines are equipped with a crankcase gas ventilation circuit called a "blow-by circuit" which recovers the crankcase gases and injects them into the air intake system of the heat engine in order to burn them in the combustion chambers thereof. Before being injected into the air supply system, the crankcase gases are routed through a settling / oil separator device which is usually located in the cylinder head cover. The oil recovered by the oil separator is returned to the internal combustion engine lubrication circuit. The crankcase gases, stripped of the oil they contained, are injected upstream of the turbocharger or downstream of the throttle valve, depending on the load of the internal combustion engine.
The discharge of crankcase gases into the atmosphere is more restrictively regulated in Europe with the European environmental standard known as “Euro 7”. The current regulations of the United States of America and South Korea already prohibit the discharge of crankcase gases and also impose on-board diagnosis, known as OBD for "On Board Diagnostic" in English, of an event of leak in the crankcase gas ventilation circuit.
More specifically, the "CARB 2023" standard requires the detection of a hole in a high-load duct, commonly called a blow-by pipe, of a crankcase gas ventilation circuit, with a diameter equivalent to the internal diameter of the duct. .
Patent application US20010010214A1 discloses the use of a pressure sensor in an atmospheric pressure heat engine for detecting a crankcase gas leak. The pressure sensor is placed in a gas passage between a valve called "PCV valve", for "Positive Crankcase Ventilation" in English, and a tank feeds the engine. The detection of a leak is obtained by comparing the measurement provided by the pressure sensor with reference pressure values. In document US20170268448A1, several pressure sensors are used to detect a leak in the crankcase gas ventilation circuit.
The document US20200378329A1 describes a system for detecting an anomaly in the leak gas supply path in an internal combustion engine. A neural network is for accurately determining the blow-by gas leak abnormality from the change in intake pressure inside the intake passage downstream of the throttle valve.
The document EP2426324B1 describes a controller making it possible to calculate a quantity of intake air when the engine is idling on the basis of an air flow measured by an air flow meter and to determine the disconnection of a duct of high load in the event that a value obtained by subtracting the quantity of intake air at idle from a quantity of stored normal intake air exceeds a threshold.
It is known to use a pressure sensor arranged in a high load duct (overfed zone) to measure a level of pressure oscillations and decide whether or not there is a leak in the crankcase gas ventilation circuit. .
It is also known to use the electrical continuity diagnostic system of the heavy load line heater to detect a disconnection of the heavy load line.
However, the prior art described makes it possible to detect only a total disconnection of the high load conduit, which is much simpler, compared to the requirements of the new standards in force and insufficient to meet the requirements of these standards.
These solutions are not suitable for reliably detecting a leak in the high load conduit.
The invention aims to remedy all or part of the drawbacks of the state of the art by proposing a heat engine comprising a crankcase gas leak detection device making it possible to detect a leak in the high-load duct, which is more reliable and more economical than those of the prior art and capable of meeting the requirements of the standards in force.
To do this is proposed, according to a first aspect of the invention, a heat engine comprising a cylinder block connected to a turbocharger. The cylinder block comprises a cylinder head communicating with a crankcase gas ventilation circuit comprising an oil separator and a high load conduit comprising a first end connected to an outlet of the oil separator and a second end connected to a turbocharger.
The combustion engine comprises an intake distributor between an outlet of the turbocharger and an inlet of the cylinder head. The intake distributor comprises a butterfly valve and means for measuring the pressure and the temperature positioned downstream of the butterfly valve.
According to a particular characteristic, the crankcase gas ventilation circuit comprises a first non-return valve positioned between the second end of the high-load duct and the turbocharger. The first check valve is intended to close when the pressure in the intake manifold is lower than the pressure upstream of the compressor.
According to a first embodiment, the second end of the high-load duct is connected to an air duct connected to the air inlet of the turbocharger by a connector. The first non-return valve is integrated in the air duct.
Preferably, the connector includes a heating element to heat the first check valve to prevent it from freezing.
According to a second embodiment, the turbocharger comprises a compressor casing connected to the air inlet of the turbocharger. The second end of the high load duct is connected to the compressor casing. The first non-return valve is secured to the compressor housing.
This makes it possible to take advantage of the heat of the turbocharger to avoid freezing and to dispense with a heating element.
Preferably, the first non-return valve is integrated in the compressor housing.
According to one possible characteristic, the first non-return valve is made of metal. The high thermal conductivity of the metal makes it possible to better heat the first non-return valve.
The invention also relates to a vehicle comprising a heat engine as defined above.
- a step for placing the intake manifold under vacuum,
- a step of closing the high load duct by the first non-return valve positioned between the duct and the air inlet when the pressure in the intake manifold is lower than the pressure upstream of the turbocharger, so as to isolate the turbocharger high charge duct,
- a step of opening a second non-return valve of a low-load duct of the oil separator allowing fluid communication between the high-load duct and the inlet distributor,
- a step of measuring the pressure and the temperature in the intake manifold by the pressure and temperature measuring means to obtain a measured air flow Q1, and
- a step of comparing the measured air flow Q1 with an estimated normal air flow Q2 as a function of the angular position of the butterfly valve of the butterfly valve by an engine computer, a leak being diagnosed when a difference in flow (Q1- Q2) is greater than a calibrated threshold flow associated with the fault. The Q2 rate is not corrected by a learning function. Flow Q2 is not corrected for closed throttle leakage flows. The calibrated flow threshold is therefore fixed whatever the butterfly dispersions.
Preferably, the depression in the intake manifold is less than -500 mbar so that any leak results in a difference in flow (Q1-Q2) greater than the threshold flow.
Ceci favorise la fuite et facilite la détectionAdvantageously, the detection method is carried out when the speed of the vehicle is less than 3000 rpm and at a torque less than 25% of the maximum torque of the heat engine. This promotes leakage and facilitates detection
The principle of the invention thus consists in creating a significant air flow leak directed towards the intake manifold when the high-load duct leaks. This leak is then easily detected by the engine computer which already exists to detect leaks in the intake manifold, simplifying the detection device and limiting costs.
This solution requires neither sensor nor additional actuator compared to the prior art, which is advantageous in terms of cost.
The invention thus provides a heat engine comprising a crankcase gas leak detection device making it possible to detect a hole on a high-load duct, going from the oil separator to the inlet of the turbocharger, more reliable and more economical than those of the prior art and capable of meeting the requirements of the standards in force.

The crankcase gas ventilation circuit comprises a high-load duct 4 (supercharged zone) comprising a first end 22 connected to an outlet 5 of the oil separator 8 and a second end 23 connected to an air inlet 6 of the turbocharger 2.

Le premier clapet anti-retour 7 est intégré dans le conduit d’air 15.According to the first embodiment, the second end 23 of the high load duct 4 is connected to an air duct 15, connected to the air inlet 6 of the turbocharger 2, by a connector 16. The first check valve return 7 is integrated into the air duct 15.
The first non-return valve 7 is intended to close when the pressure in the intake manifold 10 is lower to the pressure upstream of the turbocharger 2.
The high load duct 4 discharges the crankcase gases at the inlet of the turbocharger 2, downstream of an air filter 29. The air filter 29 is connected to the turbocharger 2 by the air duct 15 connected to the inlet of air 6 from the turbocharger 2. The crankcase gases are thus recycled, without being released into the atmosphere, by being burned in the combustion chamber of the combustion engine 1.
A second non-return valve 26 controls the passage of crankcase gases to a partial load conduit 27 (undersupplied zone). The second non-return valve 26 is housed in a cylinder head cover 28 of the engine. The partial load duct 27 can be integrated into the cylinder head 11 or be formed by an external duct.
The partial load duct 27 discharges the crankcase gases into the intake manifold 10, downstream of the butterfly valve 21 with respect to the direction of gas circulation.
Optionally, the heat engine 1 can include a fresh air ventilation duct 30 which brings ambient air into the cylinder head 11 through a regulating valve 31. The ambient air is taken here downstream of the air filter 29 and upstream of the turbocharger 2. The ambient air is drawn in by a depression which can be established in the lower engine 25 during normal operation of the internal combustion engine.
Preferably, the connector 16 includes a heating element to heat the first non-return valve 7 to prevent it from freezing.
The second end 23 of the high load duct 40 is connected to the compressor casing 19 and the first non-return valve 17 is integral with the compressor casing 19. This makes it possible to take advantage of the heat from the turbocharger 20 to avoid freezing and of a heater.
De préférence, le premier clapet anti-retour 17 est intégré dans le carter compresseur 19.Preferably, the first non-return valve 17 is integrated into the compressor housing 19.
Le premier clapet anti-retour 17 est intégré dans la partie amont 18.As a variant, the compressor casing 19 comprises an upstream part 18 connected to the air duct 15. The first non-return valve 17 is integrated into the upstream part 18.
The first non-return valve 17 is intended to close when the pressure in the intake manifold 10 is lower to the pressure upstream of the turbocharger 20.
The high load duct 40 discharges the crankcase gases at the inlet of the turbocharger 20, downstream of an air filter 29. The crankcase gases are thus recycled, without being released into the atmosphere, by being burned in the combustion chamber of the heat engine 1.
A second non-return valve 26 controls the passage of crankcase gases to a partial load conduit 27. The second non-return valve 26 is housed in a cylinder head cover 28 of the engine. The partial load duct 27 can be integrated into the cylinder head 11 or be formed by an external duct.
The thermal engine 1 comprises an intake distributor 10 positioned between an outlet 9 of the turbocharger 20 and an inlet 35 of the cylinder head 11.
The pressure and temperature measuring means 13 are positioned downstream of the valve. butterfly 21.
The partial load duct 27 discharges the crankcase gases into the intake manifold 10, downstream of the butterfly valve 21 with respect to the direction of gas flow.
The invention also relates to a method for detecting a crankcase gas leak in a high load duct 4, 40 of a crankcase gas ventilation circuit of a heat engine 1 equipped with a turbocharger 2, 20 comprising a step of placing the intake manifold 10 under vacuum.
Preferably, the vacuum in the intake manifold 10 is less than -500 mbar.
The detection method comprises a step of closing the high load duct 4, 40 by the first non-return valve 7, 17 positioned between the high load duct 4, 40 and the turbocharger 2, 20 when the pressure in the distributor d inlet 10 is lower than the pressure upstream of the turbocharger 2, 20 so as to isolate the high load duct 4, 40 from the turbocharger 2, 20.
The detection method includes a step of opening the second non-return valve 26 of the low-load duct 27 of the oil separator 8 allowing fluid communication between the high-load duct 4, 40 and the intake distributor 10.
The detection method also comprises a step of measuring the pressure and the temperature in the intake distributor by means of measuring the pressure and the temperature 13 positioned downstream of the butterfly valve 21 to calculate a flow rate of measured air Q1.
The pressure and temperature measuring means 13 comprise a pressure sensor and a temperature sensor.
The measured air flow Q1 is then compared with an estimated normal air flow Q2 as a function of the angular position of the butterfly valve of the butterfly valve 21 by the engine computer 14. The estimated normal air flow Q2 corresponds to the flow of air that would pass through the intake manifold 10 without the air leak, taking into account the angular position of the butterfly valve 21.
A leak is diagnosed when a flow difference (Q1-Q2) is greater than a calibrated flow threshold associated with the fault. The Q2 rate is not corrected by a learning function. Flow Q2 is not corrected for closed throttle leakage flows. The calibrated flow threshold is therefore fixed whatever the butterfly dispersions.
In other words, the first non-return valve 7, 17 allows the conduit 4, 40 to be at the same pressure as that of the intake distributor 10.
The flow of air coming from this leak does not pass through the butterfly valve 21. There is therefore an inconsistency in flow between the flow estimated as a function of the butterfly angle of the butterfly valve 21 and that measured by measuring means pressure and temperature 13.
The advantage is that at low load, the pressure of the intake manifold drops to -800 mbar. In the event of a leak in the high load duct 4, 40, this creates a very high leak rate which is easy to detect.
Thus, the pressure and temperature measuring means 13 are used both to detect a leak in the intake distributor 10 and a leak in the high load duct 4, 40.
Preferably, the detection method is carried out when the speed of the vehicle is less than 3000 rpm and at a torque less than 25% of the maximum torque of the thermal engine 1, which favors leakage and facilitates detection.
It is possible to deactivate this detection during braking and after a time delay after the end of braking because the vacuum pump 33 also sends air into the intake distributor 10 via the high pressure duct 4, 40, which can generate a false detection.

Naturally, the invention is described in the foregoing by way of example.
