ANTENNE VOLUMIQUE PROTEGEE DES INTEMPERIES. PROTECTED VOLUME ANTENNA OF WEATHER.
The present invention relates to a volume antenna protected from the weather. It finds application in the field of reception of geostationary satellite television broadcasts.
-Television programs emitted or re-emitted by geostationary satellite must be received by voluminal antennas, parabolic in particular, at the private individuals. Reception equipment is therefore consumer equipment which must be easy to install, easy to use and uncomplicated. The present invention provides a simple and inexpensive means to protect the metal antenna from the main atmospheric agents causing its degradation.
To this end, the present invention provides a volume antenna protected from the weather, in particular for the reception of television broadcasts by geostationary satellite. The invention is characterized in particular by the fact that the antenna comprises a volume reflector, the opening of which is covered by a flexible fabric, transparent to the waves to be received and provided with elastic clamping means intended to ensure the fabric is securely held on the opening of the reflector.

In Figure 1, there is shown a canvas adapted to the invention.
It must be made of a material transparent to radio waves. In the figure, once stretched, it is in the form of a flat disc suitable for a receiving antenna consisting of a simple reflector. The fabric 4 according to the invention comprises a folding 3 which forms a reinforcement. This reinforcement may be constituted by a hem, for example with two seams and bonding, outside the hem is reserved a part forming the gusset. The gusset 2 has a number of notches I. The interior of the gusset 2 is provided with an elastic clamping means. This clamping means can be produced for example by means of a rigid target introduced into the gusset by the notches 1 and closed in a loop by a spring tensioned. One can also use a ribbon or an elastic cord made of plastic material or a rigid means constituted by an articulated hoop put under tension.
In Figure 2, there is shown such a hoop in the general shape of a circular crown. It is made up of four sectors 6 - 9. Each sector is linked to its next by a fixing member. In a preferred embodiment, the fixing means is produced by a plurality of holes 10 - 13. Each end of sectors of the hoop has a hole 10 produced by an elongated hole and a circular hole 11. Each sector is superimposed by its end at the end of the next sector so that a light corresponds to a hole. Two screw-nut assemblies are then engaged on each light-hole assembly so as to produce a permanent fixing. The role of the lights is to adjust the perimeter of the hoop. The variation of the perimeter of the hoop makes it possible to vary the tension on the fabric.
In Figure 3, there is shown a tensioner according to the invention. Such a tensioner is produced in a flat sheet which constitutes an elastic member. This sheet is folded so that its main section is in the shape of a "2". If the antenna is made with flat edges, the bearing surface 15 of the tensioner at the edge of the antenna will be flat. On the contrary, if the edge of the antenna is folded, the bearing surface 15 of the tensioner will follow this folded shape. In the curved part available under the bearing surface 15, two aligned openings 16, 17 are made intended to receive the tie rods.
In Figures 4 and 5, there are shown two embodiments of tie rods. The tie rods are made of steel wire. One end of the tie-rod carries a thread 43. In FIG. 4, a tie-rod is shown, the other end of which comprises a hook intended to fit on the hoop once it has been inserted into the gusset and mounted.
The tie rod is attached to the hoop to the right of the notch in the gusset. In FIG. 5, a tie rod 21 has been shown, the end 20 of which carries a complete closed ring which has passed before mounting the hoop in line with the notch of the gusset.
In Figure 6, there is shown the mounting of a protected antenna according to the invention, with parabolic reflector 23 with curved edges. The device comprises the canvas 22, its gusset 28 and the hoop 27. The assembly is shown in partial section, a tie rod 29 with a hook 25 being installed in line with a notch. The tie rod 29 is installed in the holes of a tensioner 24. The tensioner 24 has a bearing surface which matches the curved shape of the edge 32 of the antenna 23. The fixing of the tie rod 29 to the tensioner 24 is carried out by a washer 30 and a nut 31 screwed onto the threaded part 43 of the tie rod 29.
La surface d'appui 35 du tendeur 36 est plane elle aussi. n Figure 7, there is shown the equivalent assembly with an antenna 34 with edges 33 plane. The bearing surface 35 of the tensioner 36 is also flat.
In Figure 8, there is shown an adaptation of the invention to an antenna which has members 38 protruding from its outlet plane 37. This is the case for the radiating elements such as the horns for example. To achieve this adaptation, the fabric 39 is mounted on a frame 40, 41. The frame comprises a circular hoop 40 and an arm 41 fixed by means known per se, for example to the hoop 42. This fixing is carried out at the right of a notch in the gusset 43. The role of the secondary hoop 40 is to make it possible to form the fabric 39 on a conical surface and thus avoid its contact with the radiating member 38.
