Abstract

The invention relates to gilled tubes making it possible to increase the exchange surface of these tubes with respect to so-called smooth tubes in heat exchangers. It comprises micro-gills 1 over the inside and outside of its entire periphery, it being possible to form these micro-gills in a helical configuration around this tube, which has the effect of increasing, in large proportions, the exchange surface with respect to a smooth equivalent tube. This tube can be used in all types of so-called smooth-tube heat exchangers (condensers, evaporators, air heaters, pipe coils, etc.).

Description

The object of the present invention is to increase the exchange surface of the tubes used for the manufacture of
so-called smooth tube exchangers while not modifying the
neither design nor manufacture of these exchangers.

The tubes currently used for the realization of
this type of exchanger are round tubes without any ner
vure nor fin and for these tubes the exchange surface is
equal to its perimeter multiplied by its length.

The object of the invention is to increase this surface
exchange in one; proportion "no'n negligible but without modifying the design or the manufacture of these exchangers.

The tubes which are the subject of the invention are characterized by the tubes currently used by what they have on their periphery, inside, outside, or on both, micro ribs or mi'cr'o 'fins t '' as shown
felt in figs. t and 2, making it possible to increase the perimeter of these tubes and therefore the exchange surface for the same length (or reduce the length for the same
area). These micro ribs 1 are not too deep so as not to reduce the thickness of the tube too much and allow the center of the holes to be kept on the tube plates of the exchangers designed with these tubes.

In the example chosen (see sketch fig. 1 and 2, figure 2 being a magnification of approximately 5 times) - the micro ribs 1 can have any shape - the exchange surface for the same length is increased by 45% whatever the radius R. of the micro ribs 1.

These micro ribs t can be produced during the stretching of the tubes either hot or cold via a die.

To further increase the exchange surface of these
tubes it is possible when stretching these in
the die, to rotate these tubes (or the die) at the same time as it advances, which will have the effect of
to give a shape of helix to the micro-ribs 1 and, from this
done, increase the length of the micro ribs 1, so the
exchange surface (see fig. 3).

These tubes will have an exchange surface of more than 50% greater (with ribs 1 as shown in sketches 1 and 2) than smooth tubes of the same diameters.

The advantage of these micro ribs 1 compared to ribs or fins of larger dimensions is that they do not modify the design of the exchangers; in fact, these tubes can replace the tubes currently used in welded exchangers, the weld filler metal plugging the holes formed by the micro-ribs 1 between the tube and the tube plate and also for the coils.

These tubes can be used in all cases as a replacement for round tubes, currently used for the manufacture of exchangers, known as with smooth tubes, they make it possible to reduce the size, and therefore the cost of these exchangers, for the same exchange surface or to replace smooth tubes of the same length to increase the surface without modifying the design.
