Abstract

The lock comprises a barrel lock which disables an essential element in the operation of the vehicle when the key is withdrawn. To prevent accidental withdrawal of the key, a plate is fitted over the face of the barrel to catch the key and lock it in place until deliberately released by a separate driver action. The plate (4) is pivoted (5) and drawn into the locking position by a spring (6) fixed to one end. To release the key (3), the plate is tilted clear of the key against the spring action. The tilting may be by a mechanical linkage or by a solenoid (13) actuated by a pushbutton (14). The plate is made of mild steel.
