Abstract

The cver for the discharge shaft for a pendulum centrifuge gives a good sealing action during the downwards discharge. This cover has segments (10) which swing outwards under centrifugal force during rotation, to seal against the outer rim(1) of the travelling cage (3) over which it is supported. Each segment of the cover is suspended by arms (11,12) from a ring (16) projecting horizontally from the top of the hub (2) of the drive housing. When the segments swing out, they act against the force of a spring (14) around a spindle projecting upwards from each pair of arms. These springs return the segments to a vertical suspended position when stationary. To complete the seal, a resilient bridging flap is connected between adjacent edges of all the segments.
