To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. \Vnnconn H. Lawson, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the town of Poughkecpsie, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Centrifugal Machines, of
county of Dutchess and which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to centrifugal separating machines, and the object of my invention is to provide a novel means of driving the separator bowland to provide means whereby said bowl may run in balance when rotating at a high rate of speed.

Referring to Fig. 1, A, indicates the se arato'r bowl which is provided with a cone shaped opening A in which opening is formed an annular groove A in which is located a yielding-spring B, which may be formed of rubber or other suitable yielding material.

I prefer to form a groove in the shaft C at C to increase the surface contact of the driving shaft with the material 13 and also assist in preventing the accidental dis placement of said material.
Referring to Fig. 3, l have illustrated the element as cylindrical in cross section and have shown a shaft D provided with two grooves D and D respectively, each of which is provided with a rubber spring B, and located on the shaft, preferably midway between the springs It, is a projecting bead D which contacts with theelement l), and as the bowl I) rotates and tends to find its center of gravity, the bowl rocks on the bead D asit slightly shifts its position relative to the shaft 1), thereby bringing pressure to bear on the upper spring B ,on onc sideo'f the shaft D and on the om'iosite side of the spring B the head I) acting as a fulcruml By this means, the bowl E can rotate on the true axis of its mass and each of the spring rings B may be used to drive the same through frictional contact with the element D which is connected to the bowl E, either by friction or by any desired mechanical In starting the machine, acertainrelative movement will exist between the shaft C and bowl A until the inertia of the bowl is over come and it comes to the same speed as the shaft C.
The bowl is supported on the upper end of the shaft at C as illustrated. The means illustrated are very simple and accomplish the object of my inventi'on'most successfully.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure is:
1. In a centrifugal separating machine, a bowl having a. recess in its .bottom located at the center thcreo f, a driving shaft, the upper cnd'of which projects into said recess and supports said howl, one of said elements being provided with an annular head to serve as a fulcrum, and a ring of resilient material located above and below said annular head in contact with said shal'tmul servin; to drive said bowl. 1
2. In a centrifugal separating uuucbine, w bowl having a recess in its bollmn located at the center thereof, a removable clement titled in said recess and provided with a recess, a vertical shaft the upper end of which projects into said recess and carries said bowl;

4. In a centrifugal separating machine, a bowl having a recess in its bottom located at the center thereof, a removable clement fitted a loosely in said recess and provided with a recess, a vertical shaft the upper end of wh ch projects into said recess and carries said bowl; said shaft having a projecting IlIlgOI bead which serves as a fulcrum, and

5. In a centrifugal separating machine, a
bowl having a recess in its bottom located at the center thereof, a removable element fitted in. said recess and provided with a recess, a vertical shaft the upper end of which .pro-
jects into said recess and carries said bowl;
