Abstract

The coaxial cable (1) has a core (3) and conducting sheath (2). The cable is passed through an internally threaded cap (10), a specially shaped insert (11) and into the mounted receptacle (4). The core (3) engages in a spring contact in the receptacle, insulated from the body. The conducting sheath is turned back over the inner face (13) of the insert. When the threaded cap is screwed on to the threaded end of the receptacle (6), the insert presses the sheath into contact with interior face of the body, both being approximately shaped as sections of spheres. At the same time, the inner serrated bore of the insert grips the cable preventing its axial movement. The insert is slotted to permit radial deformation and may be of plastic or metal. Changing the insert permits different types of cables to be accommodated.
