Abstract

The bottom of the fireplace is formed a sheet metal box which has a refractory top for the hearth. Openings in it admit fresh air into the box. Part of the air rises through the grate bars and part flows up a duct at the back of the fireplace. The lower part of this has internal ribs for stiffening and heat transfer and the upper part has openings into horizontal ducts which lead into a transverse header duct. The header duct runs across the chimney above the fire and terminates in grilles into the room in the masonry sides of the chimeny.
