Abstract

The valve port plate (6) of a swashplate pump has a flat surface which abuts against the end face of the cylinder barrel and a convex spherical surface which abuts against the end wall of the pump housing. The fluid pressure forces exerted on the port plate tend to make it rotate. This rotation is prevented by two small pistons (24a, 24b) which act on a clamp (16) bolted to the valve plate (6). One piston is exposed to pump inlet pressure and the other to the delivery pressure so that their resultant force, together with the spring (32) maintains the valve plate (6) in its correct angular position.
