872,035. Swash-plate pumps. BENDIX CORPORATION. Dec. 21, 1959 [Dec. 29, 1958], No. 43385/59. Class 103(1). In a rotating cylinder block swash-plate pump the cylinder block B, Fig. 1, bears against slipper members 108, which are mounted on the end of the housing through swivel joints 112. An arcuate valve plate F is provided having a crescent-shaped opening 34 which communicates with the outlet 54 through passages in two piston members.118, 120 and drillings 50, 52. The dimensions of the valve plate surface and of the pistons 118, 120 are such that the delivery pressure acting on the pistons urges the plate into contact with the cylinder block, and springs 138, 140 may be used to provide the initial loading. As shown in Fig. 3,.the valve plate F is preferably also located by two of the slipper members 108, 110 such that the line joining the axis of these members passes through the drilling 50. A groove 46 is preferably provided to throttle any surge of pressure at the beginning of the discharge stroke of the pistons. The angle of the swash-plate is variable in accordance with the delivery pressure.
