Abstract

The spring-accumulator brake is for compressed-air braking systems of rail vehicles. A piston is moved by compressed air in its cylinder in opposition to the spring, with a locking device securing the piston in place with the spring under load. This comprises a tappet coupled to the piston and sliding in the housing wall supporting the spring, and a locking catch engaging with a groove near the tappet end. The catch turns on the wall on the side opposite to the spring about an axis parallel to the tappet. Valves on the catch side of the wall control the air supply to the cylinder and the catch actuates electrical contacts for visual indicators, all being enclosed by a cover.
