Abstract

The two-piece operating cylinder body (10, 18) has the drive rod protruding from one end. A sliding primary piston (13) is impelled by a coil spring (14) but is restrained by an electrically held latch (21) acting on a central shaft (20) attached to the piston. A secondary piston (12) is kept in contact with the first by a coil spring (17) and is operated by air pressure between the two pistons. The brakes may be operated pneumatically, by spring pressure (utilizing the electrical trip), or by a combination of both. The latch is spring loaded closed against a release piston controlled by an electromagnetic valve.
