Abstract

The connector consists of a conical helix (10) of wire whose turns are compressed together to form a contact cone. The wire cone is located in an insulating protective cap (11) and this cap is also conical. The connector is made by inserting a conical mandrel (17) into the wire cone and by pressing it against the inside of the cap. The mandrel has a shoulder (16) at the end of a cylindrical portion (15) to rest on the base edge of the wire cone. The cap and wire cone are then welded together ultrasonically. The mandrel itself may be used as the ultrasound emitter.
