Abstract
805,414. Fishing rods. BUSI, G., CONTESINI, G., and TAGLIARINI, L., [trading as Z.O.R.T.A.C.]. April 17, 1957 [April 17, 1956], No. 12559/57. Class 48. A fishing rod having an automatic line retraction and release device comprises a reciprocating member 22 slidably movable from a rest position to a set position against the action of spring means such as an elastic thread 26, means controlled by the tension of the line 33 for locking the reciprocating member in the set position and means on the reciprocating member for gripping the line when the reciprocating member is in the set position and rendered inoperative when the reciprocating member is in the rest position. The reciprocating member 22 is slidable in a tubular part 14 of the rod and has a portion 45 which projects through a longitudinal slot 24 therein. The elastic thread 26 is secured to the lower end of the reciprocating member and extends through the tube 14 and through a further tube 16 to a plug 28 secured to the end of the further tube. The reciprocating member is locked in the set position by a hook 37 on its end engaging a hook 36 on a member 35 slidable in a box 25 connected to the tube 14. A trigger 30 having an eye 32 through which the line 33 passes is pivoted to the box and has a nose 34 engaged in a recess in the sliding member 35 so that movement of the trigger towards the rod, due to a fish biting, causes disengagement of the hooks 36, 37. Outward movement of the trigger is limited by a second nose 38 thereon abutting the box 25. The trigger, when not in use, may be secured to the rod by a clip 39. The means on the reciprocating member 22 for gripping the line comprises a cross-shaped member including a sleeve 43 through which the line passes and a cylindrical member 44, Fig. 5, connected to the sleeve 43 and slidably mounted in the projecting part 45 of the reciprocating member. A screw 46 passes through the end of the projecting part 45 and through two longitudinal slots 47, 48 in the slidable member 44 and a spring 55 abuts the screw 46 and is attached to a rubber or cork piston 49 within the slidable member 44. When the sleeve 43 is pushed towards the rod the spring 55 is compressed and the line is clamped between the piston 49 and the sleeve. The sleeve is held in this line-gripping position by a projection 53 on the free end of a blade-spring 52 secured to the sleeve engaging in a hole 51 in a member 50 secured to the reciprocating member. The projection 53 is disengaged from the hole 51 by striking a release-rod 54 connected to a bush 62 mounted on the free end of a helical spring 61 located at the rest position of the reciprocating member and adapted to cushion the force of the reciprocating member. A handgrip 15 is secured to the tube 16. Means for connecting a reel includes a sleeve 18 surrounding the tube 16 and provided at its ends with nuts 19, 20.
