Abstract

The dingible airship for transporting loads and/or passengers consists of an envelope forming a toroidal ring with a vertically directed variable pitch propellor (10) placed at the centre. A rigid framework (3, 4, 5, 6) supporting a circular gondola (2) connects the envelope to a conical shaped central keel (8) which encloses a motor (9) and produces a venturi effect increasing the lift from the propellar by directing the air flow. The propellor and motor are mounted on a universal joint which allows the direction of the propellor to be varied and the toroid is rotated about the centre by at least three auxiliary propellors and motors disposed on the periphery of the gondola. These also stabilise and correct the attitude of the toroid.
