Abstract

A network is used for monitoring the fatigue state of certain aircraft structural components using an array of strain gauges attached to those components and providing signals through a multiplier to an online digital processor presented. An array (20) of strain gauges (10a, 10b...) is attached to the relevant components of the aircraft frame. It feeds signals to individual amplifiers (30) and to a multiplexer (40) serviced by a digital processor via a suitable analogue to digital converter (50). The processor consists of a synchronizing unit (80) and a number of linked storage units (90, 100, 110) which detect the number of times any individual strain gauge signal crosses a threshold region without immediate recovery according to a given algorithm. The thresholds themselves are specified via a special input unit (120).
