Abstract

The sailing boat has side floats which progressively lift the hull from the water and reduce the suction effect. One pair of floats is at the front, mounted on an outrigger (10), the second pair being at the rear. Each float (20, 22, 24, 26) is of hollow construction for lift and has an aerofoil horizontal cross section. Its vertical cross-section tapers to the bottom tip and may be straight (24, 26) or curving inwards (20, 22) towards the keel. All floats are mounted at an angle (F) to the vertical and provided with a worm and screw mechanism (44, 46, 48, 50) to alter the angle of incidence.
