Abstract

A hygrometer consists of >=1 monomolecular layer of an organic cpd. (I) having hydrophilic gps. deposited on a metallic substrate and covered with a metallic layer which is sufficiently thin to allow ambient moisture to diffuse through. The substrate is pref. of Al and may consist of several non-touching parts and the cover pref. of Al or Au. (I) is esp. Ca behenate or alpha-hydroxydocosanoic acid. The hygrometer rapidly gives values of environmental humidity and is not subject to hystersis effects.
