Abstract

An anti-pollution oil tank for the transport of hydrocarbons by river or sea, has, inside a cylindrical metal mantle, a supple and flexible vessel of a material resistant to hydrocarbons and seawater. Vales and pipelines are provided for filling and draining, air, ballast water and oil, and the mantle, larger in dia. than in depth, has a flanged manhole on top, through which the flexible vessel is inserted. The neck of the flexible vessel has a reinforcement flange and a joint is made by a cylindrical flanged cowl which bolts to the mantle flange. Pref. the flexible vessel is made of a plastic or elastomeric material. Prevents pollution and saves time in the operations of (un)loading ballast water, which does not have to be cleaned. Washing out of the tanks is also unnecessary.
