Abstract

A worktable is surrounded by a three sided rectangular hood. A fan (6) delivers air into a passage at the back of the hood from which it flows along the side and through openings in the side across the hood. The main flow (4) is horizontally through the hood itself. Vertical plates (8, 9) delimit a narrow opening in the side at the front of the hood through which a smaller part (3) of the air flows to form a laminar air curtain between the operator and the working area. There is a chiller (7) on the other side of the hood on the fan inlet. Cooling the air prevents natural convection from pulling the air curtain away from the front of the hood.
