Abstract

A multi plate heat exchanger with a stack of plates spaced apart so that the hot and cold water can pass through respective alternate layers, has the spacers on the plates shaped so that the water flows around a spiral path. This gives prolonged and good contact between the water and the plates for high efficiency. Each plate (4) has a spiral strip (5) on edge mounted on it to form a spacer. Each strip is spirally wound, terminating in a D shaped port (7) at the outlet hole (8) through the centre. In an alternative design a double spiral causes the flow inwards to rotate in the opposite direction to the flow outwards, and a central hole is not required.
