Abstract

A generator produces single-phase or multi-phase AC. It has a permanent magnet rotor that has "p" pole-pairs and is divided axially into at least two parts that work in unison with the same stator poles. The generator may be used as a bicycle dynamo. To overcome the difficulty in providing regulated excitation, so as to avoid excess voltages when the totor speed is sharply increased, one of the rotor parts is connected in locked-rotation relationship with the rotor shaft. The other part of the rotor is arranged on the rotor shaft such that the part can be rotatably displaced by a maximum of two pole divisions.
