Abstract

A beam of concrete and steel has a tension flange (1) and a compression one (4). The tension flange has prestressed metal insertions (8, 9) in its interior and part of the beam web (6) enters the tension flange assembly. The metal reinforcement can be in trellis or not and made from rods or wires. The tension flange has an outer coating of concrete (11) which houses both the metal reinforcement and part of the web (6). Alternatives are to cover also the web, at the web and compression flange with concrete. Among other disadvantages, the weight of the beam is reduced by using this construction.
