Abstract

1313307 Chairs A J ENSOR 20 July 1970 [28 July 1969] 35090/70 Heading A4H [Also in Division E1] Rigidly or loosely jointed struts 1 are arranged in a lattice with steel wires or cables 2 which may be a single loop. The lattice is energized by externally applied forces F which set up bending or compressive forces in the struts and tension in the wires 2. A matrix of foamed concrete, foamed polyurethane or concrete with a wood wool filler is then moulded around the lattice or applied in a slurry deposit process to a mould. When the matrix material has set the forces F are removed allowing the energization to be taken up by the matrix stock. The struts may be W- section perforated metal strips. The structure may be a double curvature panel, a longitudinally bored beam, Fig. 3 (not shown) or a chair Fig. 5 (not shown). Panels may be joined side to side or bolted end to end to form an arched roof, a dome, a floor or a wall. The lattice may be covered with a fine wire mesh prior to casting in a mould.
