Abstract

A tobacco leaf detaching and sorting machines, has a pair of rollers (2) between which the stem is fed horizontally to pass between two star wheels (1) which detach the leaves. The leaves then pass between two toothed belts (4, 5) driven by a horizontal belt underneath. The two belts pass over sets of pulleys so that the leaves enter the nip between them, leaves of different length being gripped in sequence. The leaves and then deposited in batches according to length along a sheet (3) on the discharge side of the belts.
