Abstract

The safty belt is wound onto a spindle (1) which has one end formed as a cone gear (2). The face of this has a spiral track (3), the teeth running from the centre outwards. A similar gear (6, 7) is positioned opposite, its stub end (4) engaging the centre of a spiral spring (5). Between the gears is a threaded rod (8), parallel to the cone faces. On this is a cylinder (10) its ends forming toothed discs (11, 12) engaging both gears. Using the belt winds or unwinds the spring. The cylinder moves over the spiral tracks and varies the wound ratio of the spring to equalise its tension.
