Abstract

The mechanism is particularly for a vehicle safety belt, one end of which is secured to a shaft rotating under spring action tending to wind it up. The shaft (1) has a series of notches or teeth (9), and a mating toothed or notched component (4) is movably mounted in the shaft support, being normally free of the shaft. The component can be brought into engagement with it however, and is equipped with means (8) limiting its rotation in a direction corresponding to that of the shaft (E) when winding the belt in. The component can be in the formed of a toothed roller rotating on a first lever (5) spring-loaded towards the shaft, but is normally held free of it by a trigger (15), spring-loaded into engagement with it and having a ramp face (15a) bearing against it.
