Abstract

The cable (5) is wound around the drum which is flanged (2) at each end. The drum runs on an axle (4) and is fitted with a coil spring (3) which tightens up when the cable is unwound and releases on rewind of the cable. The flanges are grooved to take the double ratchet (6) which pivots around the pivot point (7) and is retained by the spring (8). The position of the pivot point (7) may be left or right of the spring. To prevent rewinding the cable, the left hand pivot will engage the ratchet to prevent unwinding the cable the right hand pivot engages the right side of the ratchet groove.
