Abstract

Head-up display apparatus comprises a source of light signals and an optical device. Part of the latter masks off the view of a scene ahead of the observer (O) and projects the light signals from the source across a space in the form of a prism of triangular cross-section. The apparatus is placed in a vehicle, or other environment, and enables the observer to look at an exterior scene on which information is superimposed in the form of light signals (characters, line, etc). The optical design may take a slightly more complicated form in which a double set of prisms is used with the extra pair produces a "dog-leg" optical path and has convex/concave lens pairs associated with the end faces of the prisms.
