1,176,659. Lenses. H.J. GASA. Dec. 15, 1966 [Jan. 4, 1966], No.56117/66. Heading G2J. A lens has one or both surfaces elliptically curved according to the equation:- r1+ r2/2e = n where r 1 and r 2 are the distances of a point on the surface from the focal points of the ellipse, 2e is the distance between such focal points and n is the refractive index of the lens material. Both faces of the lens may be elliptically curved or one may be spherically curved. The lens may be of glass or plastics material or liquid contained in a thin shell. The lens, or an assembly thereof, may form a curved image and non-circular diaphragms, such as rectangular or elliptical diaphragms may be used.
