Abstract

The car seat belt which is automatically tightened when the car door alongside is shut, has a diagonal strap (7) and an abdominal strap (8) the former (7) anchored at the top to the door and at the bottom behind the seat, the latter (8) anchored to the bottom of the door and also behind the seat, and also passing through a guide (16) mounted at the top of a swinging arm (18) alongside the door (3) which has a pivot (13) at its bottom interconnected by a lever arrangement (20, 21) housed inside the lower part of the door and also fitted with a return spring (25) so that as the door closes, the arm (18) swings rearwards and downwards to hold that end of the belt down. Three alternative designs are shown.
