Abstract

The wheel suspension arm is connected by means of a link to a rocker arm which rotates about a fixed pivot. The rocker arm carries a quadrant which meshes with a pinion to drive, by means of gears and ratchets, a wheel in one direction only and this drives the final wheel in the train. The power from the final wheel is used to wind up a coil spring which stores the energy. The connection includes a clutch responsive to spring tension to release the coupling when the spring is completely wound. The spring is coupling to a generator which drives a motor driving the vehicle, the connection operating automatically if the vehicle stops.
