Abstract
1399073 Toys IDEAL TOY CORP 14 Feb 1973 [30 March 1972] 7177/73 Heading A6S [Also in Division F2] Prevention of overwinding of the spring motor in a toy motor car, &c 12 when using a winding mechanism 10 upon which the car &c is placed so that winding can be effected on pulling a pivoted handle 54, is achieved by an overload tension spring 58 connected between the handle and a gear segment 50 transmitting drive through a gear train 36 to a winding clutch hub 20 .engageable by the toy car, &c. The gear segment 50 is journalled by a pin 52 in the winding mechanism housing 22, and is connected at one side by a pivot 56 with the handle 54. The spring 58 connects the other side of the gear segment 50 to the handle 54. The gear segment 50 meshes the small gear 42 of a gear pair 40, 42 integral with a shaft slidable along a slot 46 so that the larger gear 40 can be engaged and disengaged from a pinion 30 fast with the winding clutch hub 20. Ratchet teeth 34 on the clutch hub can be engaged by coacting, oppositely-directed ratchet teeth 36 on a driven winding hub 18 in the toy car, &c 12. Wheel holders 26 in the winding mechanism housing 22 receive the wheels 14 of the toy car 12, &c. A stop 74 on the handle 54 can be engaged with a stop 76 in the housing 22 to limit pivoting of the handle when winding of the spring motor has been completed and the spring 58 between the handle and gear segment 50 has been stretched by continued pulling of the handle. In use, the winding mechanism 10 is placed on the floor, &c, and the toy car, &c 12 is positioned to engage its winding hub 18 with the mechanism winding hub 20, as shown. Movement of the handle 54 anticlockwise, Fig 2, slides the gear pair 40, 42 along the slot 46 to disengage the gears 40, 30. Pulling the handle 54 clockwise slides the gear pair 40, 42 back along the slot.46 to reengage the gears 40, 30 and wind the spring motor. If the spring motor has been fully wound, rotation of the winding hub 20 is resisted, and continued pulling of the handle 54 stretches the spring 58, the handle turning about the pivot 56 relative to the gear segment 50. Reference is made to Specifications 1373874 and 1373876.
