Abstract

Fastener is used to assemble components in which the fastener compresses the parts together. The fastener consists of a shaft with an enlarged head, the shaft being passed through holes in the parts to be assembled, and a ring which fits over the other end of the shaft. The inner face of the ring is shaped so that a narrow face adjacent to the rin inner diameter is pressed against the piece to be joined. When the ring is driven on to the shaft the material of the parts to be joined is deformed and compressed against the shaft. The ring can be screwed on, and have grooves to lock it in place. The narrow, deforming face can be on a separate thin ring, and a similar ring can be put between the fastener head and the other part to be assembled.
