Abstract

The excitation coil circuit for direct current operated contactors or relays is so arranged that during the holding phase the feed voltage is upplied to the excitation coil via an electronic, contactless switch or a transistor. Preferably the frequency and/or the duration of the pulses is control in dependence on the holding current measured at voltage drop across a measuring resistor. During the attraction phase the pulse generator is bridged for the transit time of a resistor-capacitor element, or in dependence on the current flow in this attraction phase. If the frequency and/or duration of the pulses is controlled by a measuring resistor, the bridging of the pulses generator may be attained by short circuiting the measuring resistor.
