Abstract

The glass envelope has a number of openings, for passage of a current supply lead connected to a respective electrode; each opening having a conductive tube located partly within and partly outside the envelope. Each electrode is passed through its respective tube into the envelope and fixed in precise position relative to a further electrode surrounded by a further conductive tube extending through the wall of the envelope. The envelope is evacuated and the external ends of the tubes sealed against the electrodes, the envelope then being filled with a rare gas and hermetically sealed.
