Abstract

In a hand-held applicator, the nylon or other thermoplastic thread or strip is drawn through heat-activated adhesive to an outlet, to be laid precisely on the fabric before it is folded over, the thread being of 0.1-0.5 mm dia. in a thermoplastic which melts at 100-125 degrees C. On applying heat and press. the adhesive is activated and the thermoplastic melts into the fabric to give a permanent pleat which is resistant to normal washing and dry cleaning processes, easily and precisely formed and shaped.
