Abstract

A woven or non-woven web of co-extensive glass-fibres is pref. pressed against the surface of a knitted, woven or needled felt base web of thermoplastic (e.g. nylon) fibres, so that the glass-fibres are locally bonded to the surface of the base web. Pref. the glass fibres themselves are coated with a thermoplastic, and pref. the base web is preliminarily heated to reduce its moisture content of 0.5%. The material does not stretch with changes of ambient conditions.
